Spanish Brass has been one of the leading brass ensembles in the international music scene for over 35 years. Founded in 1989, the quintet has developed into a dynamic formation that sets new accents in both classical and contemporary music. In 1996, they won the first prize at the 6th International Brass Quintet Competition "Ville de Narbonne" (France), considered the most prestigious competition in the world for this formation. In 2020, they received the highest musical award in Spain, the National Music Prize from the Spanish Ministry of Culture. Additionally, they were awarded four Carles Santos Awards by the Valencian Institute of Culture for their CD productions. The ensemble regularly performs at major festivals worldwide, including the Lucerne Festival, the Festival de Musique de Radio-France, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, and the International Music and Dance Festival of Granada. In 1995, they performed at the Princess of Asturias Awards ceremony and contributed to film scores and theater productions, including the play "La Fundación" by Buero Vallejo and the film "Descongélate" by Félix Sabroso. With over 30 released albums, Spanish Brass showcases their stylistic diversity – from classical and Spanish music to contemporary compositions. They have collaborated with renowned artists such as Christian Lindberg, Ole Edvard Antonsen, Kenny Wheeler, and Michel Becquet, and have performed over 100 new works, including compositions by José Luís Turina, Jesús Villa-Rojo, Maurice Jarre, Vladimir Cosma, Antón García Abril, Juan J. Colomer, and Vicente Roncero. They have also performed large concert works for brass quintet and orchestra, including Karel Husa’s “Concerto for Brass Quintet and String Orchestra.” In addition to their concert activities, Spanish Brass is deeply committed to music education and organizes the international festivals “Spanish Brass Alzira” and “Brassurround,” where some of the world’s most renowned brass players gather every year.
