Storm in Janoska Style
- 3rd movement from Summer
The Janoska Ensemble presents its fourth CD, released by Deutsche Grammophon, to celebrate the 300th anniversary of Antonio Vivaldi in "Janoska Style," serving as a bridge between the art of improvisation of his time and the rhythm and harmony of today. Each of the four musicians reinterprets their chosen season in a single movement, thus linking the selected season to their instrument. For example, Julius Darvas chooses autumn for his double bass, with a scene associated with hunting, giving thanks for the harvest, and folk dances. The fourth album, set to be released in October 2024, will include an ensemble version of "The Four Seasons," composed for two violins, double bass, and piano. At the same time, versions for string orchestra and symphony orchestra will also be released as part of the "Janoska Goes Symphonic" project. In other words, Vivaldi's "Four Seasons" merge with the Janoska style and can be heard both in the version for two violins, double bass, and piano, and in the exclusive ensemble-orchestra version.
In today's vast musical landscape, the Janoska Ensemble has succeeded in establishing its own distinctive style, turning it into a brand and creating a genre of its own: the “Janoska style.” This style elevates well-known pieces—from a repertoire that ranges from classical music to pop—to the highest artistic level, transforming them into something that feels both familiar and yet entirely new and different. Each carefully crafted arrangement is marked by the musical exuberance that is the Janoska Ensemble’s trademark. This is even more evident in the group’s original compositions, which are surprising in their expressive range—moving from the deeply emotional to the irresistibly energetic.
The “Janoska style” has the rare ability to immediately captivate listeners with vastly different musical tastes. In their concerts, just a few bars are enough for the audience to be swept up in a wave of positive energy—and through their virtuosic improvisations, the four musicians manage to win over even the most skeptical listeners.
